Seasonal Ranch Hand at Sun Ranch



 

Location
The Sun Ranch is located in southwest Montana in the Madison Valley 16 miles south of Cameron, Montana.  Situated on the bench east of the Madison River, the 26,000 acres is diverse in ecosystems ranging from grasslands to timbered wilderness.  The ranch serves as a migration corridor for many species of wildlife transitioning from summer and winter ranges. 
 
Operation
The ranch manages an 1800 head custom grazing operation from May to October.  Full management of cattle is provided by the ranch for pasture customers.  The grazing program is intensively managed, assuring healthy landscapes and livestock.  All cattle work is done horseback in a low stress manner.  Conservation is of great importance to this operation.
 
Job Description
The Sun Ranch is seeking an open minded and hard working individual to assist in ranching operations for the 2008 grazing season.  Tasks will include fence work (temporary and permanent), weed management, livestock mineral distribution, range management, predator deterrence, cattle work, and other ranching duties.  Grazing management is accomplished working with Savory grazing systems and low stress livestock handling.  Hours are long and work may be strenuous.  The Sun Ranch strives to have a learning environment were all team members learn by experience.
*Note- This is not strictly a “cowboy” job.
 
Qualifications
Honest, Respectful, Hard working, Open minded, Good Attitude
Capable to learn weed species and control methods
Ability to operate an ATV in uneven terrain
Ability to perform work with horses
Willingness to learn Visions and Values of the Sun Ranch Group
